Positions: Mechanical Fitter (Diesel) & Boilermaker – Mining

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $90,000 to $110,000 plus superannuation per annum

Location: Mining operations across multiple sites throughout Queensland

We are currently seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters (Diesel) and Boilermakers to join mining operations across multiple sites in Queensland.

Position 1: Mechanical Fitter (Diesel)

As a Mechanical Fitter (Diesel) you will be responsible for the safe, effective, and timely maintenance, repair, and overhaul of mobile and fixed plant equipment within a mining environment. This role requires extensive experience in diesel-powered mining equipment, a strong focus on safety and compliance, and the ability to work autonomously in a high-demand, production-driven setting.

The successful candidate will demonstrate proven mining experience, sound diagnostic capability, and a commitment to equipment reliability and operational excellence.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform scheduled and breakdown maintenance on diesel-powered mobile plant and mining equipment, including (but not limited to):
• Haul trucks, loaders, excavators, dozers, graders, and ancillary equipment
• Conduct fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, braking systems, and drive trains
• Complete component change-outs, rebuilds, and overhauls to OEM and site standards
• Carry out inspections and servicing in accordance with maintenance plans and statutory requirements

Safety & Compliance

• Actively promote and comply with site safety standards, WHS legislation, and mining regulations
• Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
• Identify hazards, complete risk assessments (JHAs/JSEAs), and report incidents or near misses
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with site procedures, permits, and isolation requirements (LOTO)

Documentation & Reporting

• Accurately complete maintenance records, service reports, and defect notifications
• Use site CMMS systems to log work orders, inspections, and parts usage
• Communicate equipment condition, defects, and maintenance recommendations to supervisors

Team & Operational Support

• Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, and reliability teams
• Provide technical input to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime
• Support shutdowns, major maintenance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Mentor apprentices or less experienced fitters where required

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

• Australian Recognised Trade Qualification (Minimum AQF Certificate III or higher qualification in relevant field)
• Minimum 3 years’ post-trade experience in the mining industry
• Demonstrated experience working on heavy mobile mining equipment
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capability
• Sound knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and OEM specifications
• Strong commitment to safety and risk management
• Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing site team

Desirable

• OEM experience (e.g. CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, Sandvik)
• Shutdown and major component change-out experience
• Experience with condition monitoring and reliability practices
• Exposure to CMMS systems (SAP, Pronto, AMT, or similar)

• Current Coal Board Medical / Mining Medical (as applicable)

Position 2: Boilermaker

As a Boilermaker you will be responsible for performing fabrication, welding, and structural maintenance tasks on fixed and mobile mining equipment. This role ensures the integrity and availability of critical assets across the site through high-quality repairs, preventative maintenance, and compliance with mine safety standards.

Operating within a high-risk, production-focused environment, the Boilermaker plays a vital part in supporting production efficiency, asset life extension, and safe equipment operation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Study technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine fabrication and repair requirements
• Prepare, measure, and cut metal components using hand tools, flame/oxy cutting, plasma cutting equipment, and metal cutting machines
• Shape, bend, and assemble metal sections and components through mechanical or manual methods
• Perform welding (e.g. MIG, TIG, flux-core, and stick), gouging, bolting, and riveting to join fabricated parts
• Perform welding, fabrication, and structural repairs on heavy mining equipment (e.g. dump trucks, loaders, draglines, excavators, CHPP components, chutes, conveyors, crushers)
• Carry out component rebuilds, plate replacement, wear part change-outs, and general steel fabrication work
• Undertake preventative and corrective maintenance activities in line with site maintenance schedules
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with safety and engineering standards
• Conduct inspections to identify wear, fatigue, cracking, or structural faults in equipment and plant structures
• Operate fabrication tools and equipment safely, including oxy cutting equipment, plasma cutters, grinders, and overhead cranes
• Work in confined spaces and at heights while complying with risk assessments, permits, and site safety procedures
• Complete shutdown works and assist with breakdown repairs and maintenance activities
• Maintain accurate job records, timesheets, and work orders using CMMS systems (e.g. SAP, Pronto)
• Complete safety documentation including JHAs, pre-starts, and toolbox talks
• Collaborate with other trades (e.g. Fitters and Electricians) to support efficient shutdowns and breakdown responses
• Contribute to continuous improvement and reliability initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

• At least 3 years of relevant experience
• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boilermaker/Welder) (or equivalent)
• Proven experience in mining or heavy industrial fabrication and repair
• High proficiency in MIG, TIG, flux-core, and stick welding (vertical and overhead)
• Ability to read engineering drawings and fabricate accordingly
• Current Coal Board Medical (or ability to obtain)
• Standard 11 Surface Induction
• Current Driver’s Licence (Manual)
• Working at Heights & Confined Space certificates

Desirable:

• HRWL (High Risk Work Licence) – EWP, Dogging, Rigging, Forklift
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Experience with wear liners, hardfacing, and overlay welding
• Familiarity with mobile plant shutdowns and fixed plant maintenance
• Experience on BMA, Glencore, or Whitehaven sites

• External: Contractors, OEM reps, Site Inspectors, Tooling Suppliers

Working Conditions

• Site-based role which may involve FIFO or DIDO roster arrangements
• Physically demanding role with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and working in confined or elevated areas
• PPE must be worn at all times and compliance with site safety requirements is mandatory
• Shift work and extended hours may be required during shutdowns or major repairs
