Position Type: Full-time

Salary: $80,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum  

Location: Sydney NSW 2000

Main duties will include:

• Take instructions from the Team Leader and Director as directed and seek guidance from supervising lawyers
• Conduct initial telephone and email enquiries with prospective clients and assist with initial client assessments, including attending face-to-face consultations where required.
• Provide timely and professional communication with clients, prospective clients and other relevant parties, including answering and directing telephone calls and following up outstanding information or documentation.
• Assist senior lawyers with the preparation and conduct of client matters under appropriate supervision.
• Review client documents and supporting evidence for completeness, relevance and consistency, identify missing information or evidence, and follow up with clients as required.
• Assist with the preparation of client advice, correspondence, applications, appeals, submissions and other legal documents for review and approval by senior lawyers.
• Prepare legal submissions for skills assessments, visa applications, appeals and other immigration matters under appropriate supervision.
• Ensure all outgoing legal correspondence and advice is reviewed and settled by the Team Leader or supervising lawyer before being issued.
• Assist senior lawyers with preparation for tribunal and court matters, including compiling chronologies, indexes, evidence bundles, hearing materials and other relevant documentation.
• Attend tribunal and court hearings where appropriate and as directed, under the supervision of senior lawyers.
• Undertake administrative and procedural tasks necessary for the efficient progression of client matters.
• Open, maintain and close matter files in accordance with firm procedures, ensuring files are accurately and appropriately maintained
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate file notes, forms, evidence, correspondence and other relevant documents on client files.
• Ensure contracts, invoices and other matter-related documentation are prepared accurately and in accordance with firm procedures.
• Assist with monitoring and following up outstanding professional fees and support the timely collection of fees.
• Arrange the preparation and creation of documents and other materials required for office and client use.
• Schedule client meetings, consultations and conference rooms as required.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with all professional, ethical, legal, workplace and firm policies and obligations.
• Keep up to date with relevant changes to immigration legislation, regulations, policies, procedures and practice requirements.
• Receive and implement feedback from supervising lawyers to continually improve legal drafting, file management, procedural knowledge and client service.
• Perform other duties reasonably required by the Team Leader, Executive, Director or supervising lawyers within the scope of the role.

Requirements:

• Hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
• Minimum 6-12 months’ experience in Australian Migration Law
• Admitted as a lawyer in New South Wales (NSW) and holding a current practising certificate
• Demonstrated knowledge of Australian migration law and visa processes
• Experience preparing visa applications, legal submissions and supporting documentation

• Ability to work co-operatively and effectively within the team and the organisation
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, solve problems, manage and meet deadlines and maintain a high quality of work
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to deliver messages in a clear manner
• A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in migration law.
• The ability to speak a second language is desirable but not essential].
