Our client PSK Family Trust is a residential and commercial bricklaying construction enterprise based in Victoria, specializing in exposed brickwork, structural masonry, and high-quality finishing works for residential developments and construction projects. The Bricklayer is responsible for performing high-quality bricklaying and masonry work on residential and commercial construction projects. This position involves laying bricks, blocks, and pavers to precise specifications while maintaining structural integrity, aesthetic standards, and compliance with building codes. The role is a full-time skilled position established to support the business’s ongoing operational needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Bricklaying and Masonry Work

• Lay bricks, blocks, and pavers according to architectural plans, specifications, and building codes
• Prepare and mix mortar to correct consistency and proportions for different applications
• Measure, mark, and cut bricks and blocks to required sizes using hand and power tools
• Build and lay walls, arches, and other structural brickwork features to precise measurements
• Complete exposed brickwork with clean joints and consistent finishing standards
• Install brick veneer, cavity walls, and structural masonry in residential and commercial buildings
• Ensure accuracy of vertical and horizontal alignment using spirit levels, plumb lines, and measuring tools

Site Preparation and Material Management

• Set up work areas and ensure adequate materials, tools, and equipment are available
• Prepare construction sites including setting out string lines and establishing levels
• Handle, transport, and store bricks, blocks, and construction materials safely and efficiently
• Clean and maintain bricklaying tools and equipment in good working condition
• Remove excess mortar and maintain clean working areas throughout the project

Plan Interpretation and Technical Compliance

• Read and interpret architectural drawings, plans, and specifications accurately
• Follow construction specifications and building code requirements for all brickwork
• Identify and resolve technical issues or discrepancies in plans with supervisor guidance
• Calculate material quantities and dimensions required for specific tasks

Quality Control and Workmanship

• Conduct self-inspection of completed work to ensure quality standards are met
• Maintain consistent joint thickness, alignment, and aesthetic appearance in all brickwork
• Correct any defects or inconsistencies in workmanship promptly
• Ensure structural integrity and stability of all masonry work

Workplace Health and Safety

• Comply with all WHS legislation, regulations, and company safety policies at all times
• Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety boots, hard hat, and high-visibility clothing
• Identify workplace hazards and report safety concerns to supervisor immediately
• Participate in site safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
• Follow safe manual handling practices when lifting and moving materials
• Operate tools and equipment safely in accordance with manufacturer instructions

Communication and Teamwork

• Work effectively as part of a construction team alongside other trades and workers
• Follow instructions and direction from supervisors and site managers
• Communicate progress, issues, and material requirements to relevant personnel
• Maintain professional conduct and positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.

Requirements:

Essential Requirements

• Certificate III in Bricklaying
• A minimum of 12 months of relevant experience
• Demonstrated competency in laying bricks and blocks to required standards
• Ability to prepare and mix mortar to correct consistency and proportions
• Capability to read and interpret basic construction plans and specifications
• Current White Card (Construction Induction Training) certification
• Understanding of and commitment to workplace health and safety requirements
• Physical fitness to perform manual bricklaying work and lift materials
• Ability to use standard bricklaying hand tools and equipment
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality
• Ability to work effectively as part of a construction team

Desirable Attributes

• Experience with exposed brickwork and decorative finishes
• Knowledge of Australian building codes and construction standards
• First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Previous work experience on residential or commercial construction sites
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Good communication skills and professional attitude

Training and Professional Development

The successful candidate will receive workplace induction, supervision, and ongoing support to perform the role effectively and maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and compliance. Support may include:

Working Conditions

• Work is performed primarily outdoors on residential and commercial construction sites
• Exposure to various weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain
• Physical demands include standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting for extended periods
• Regular lifting and carrying of bricks, blocks, and materials (up to 20kg)
• Use of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
• Work at heights may be required using scaffolding and elevated work platforms
• Travel between multiple construction sites across Victoria may be required
• Early start times are typical in the construction industry (usually 7:00 AM)

Employment Terms and Conditions

• Hours of Work: Full-time employment, typically 38 hours per week plus reasonable additional hours as required for construction projects.
• Leave Entitlements: 4 weeks annual leave per year, 10 days personal/carer’s leave, compassionate leave, and public holiday entitlements in accordance with the National Employment Standards.
• Superannuation: In accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992.
