Position: Electrician (HV) – Mining

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $90,000 to $110,000 plus superannuation per annum

Location: Mining operations across multiple sites throughout Queensland

As an Electrician (HV) you will be responsible for the safe installation, commissioning, maintenance, fault finding, and repair of high voltage electrical systems and equipment within a mining environment. This role requires extensive mining industry experience, strong HV competencies, and demonstrated capability working on new-generation electric mine haul trucks and associated infrastructure.

The successful candidate will have a strong safety-first mindset, proven HV switching and isolation experience, and the ability to work effectively in high-risk, production-critical mining operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Electrical Maintenance & Fault Finding

• Perform scheduled and breakdown maintenance on HV and LV electrical systems across mobile and fixed plant
• Maintain, fault find, and repair electric mine haul trucks, including:
  • Traction motors and drives
  • HV cabling, connectors, and isolation systems
  • Power distribution and control systems
  • On-board monitoring, protection, and control systems
• Carry out diagnostics using OEM software and technical documentation
• Support commissioning, testing, and handover of new electric haulage equipment

High Voltage Operations

• Perform HV switching, isolations, testing, and earthing in accordance with site procedures and legislation
• Prepare and execute HV access permits, switching sheets, and risk assessments
• Conduct inspections and testing of HV equipment, substations, and reticulation systems
• Ensure compliance with Queensland Electrical Safety Act, WHS legislation, and mining regulations

Safety & Compliance

• Actively promote and comply with site safety standards, critical risk controls, and life-saving rules
• Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
• Identify hazards, complete JHAs/JSEAs, and report incidents and near misses
• Ensure all work is completed under appropriate permits, isolations, and LOTO requirements

Documentation & Reporting

• Accurately complete electrical reports, test results, permits, and maintenance records
• Update CMMS systems with work orders, inspections, and defect notifications
• Communicate equipment condition, defects, and improvement opportunities to supervisors and engineering teams

Team & Operational Support

• Work collaboratively with mechanical, operations, and OEM support teams
• Provide technical input into reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support shutdowns, major maintenance activities, and project works
• Mentor apprentices or less experienced electricians where required

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

• Australian Recognised Trade Qualification (Minimum AQF Certificate III or higher qualification in relevant field)
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (ideally in the mining industry)
• Demonstrated experience working with HV systems (≥3.3kV) in mining environments
• Proven experience working on electric mine haul trucks or battery-electric mining equipment
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capability on HV and control systems
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single line diagrams, and OEM documentation
• Strong understanding of electrical safety, risk management, and isolation procedures.

Desirable

• OEM experience with electric haul truck platforms (e.g. Komatsu, CAT, Hitachi, Liebherr, Sandvik)
• Experience with battery-electric or trolley-assist haulage systems
• Exposure to HV substations, switchgear, and reticulation networks
• Experience using CMMS systems (SAP, Pronto, AMT, or similar)

Licences & Certifications

Mandatory

• Current Driver’s Licence
• Queensland Electrical Licence (or ability to obtain)

• Standard 11 (or site equivalent)
• Current Coal Board Medical / Mining Medical (as applicable)
